Did you know Louis Bellson is largely responsible for Hi Hats being different weights? He asked Zildjian to make the bottom hat heavier and pair it with a lighter weight top hat. The result is more chick and definition and the birth of (Louis' name suggestion) the NEW BEAT. Thanks Louis!!
This pair is some of the first New Beats ever produced. Back then, they stamped the bottom hat with the words "New Beat" but not the top. They would stamp the underside of the top hat with some other designator. In this case, "HI-HAT".
Crispy and punchy but slightly tamped down due to the patina. There is is still a good amount of super high end (EQ) sizzle.
Incredible piece of drumming history.
